The Checker Auto Parts 500 is a NASCAR Sprint Cup stock car race held at the Phoenix International Raceway. The race has previously been known by various other names such as the Checker 500, the Autoworks 500, the Pyroil 500, the Slick 50 500, the Dura Lube 500 and the Dura Lube/Kmart 500. The Checker Auto Parts and Chevron sponsors the racing event and it is one of the most adventurous events in the Sprint Cup Series.

The Phoenix International Speedway that hosts this event is located in Arizona and is a one-mile long tri-oval track that was inaugurated in the year 1964. It has four turns and the length of the frontstretch is 1,179 feet while the length of the backstretch is 1,551 feet. The banking at the turns 1&2 are 11 degrees while it is 9 degrees at the turns 3&4. Apart from this, the frontstretch is banked at 3 degrees and the backstretch is banked at 9 degrees. The speedway has a seating capacity of around 76,800 people and hosts many other racing events such as the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series

The Checker Auto Parts 500 is a 312 laps race that covers a distance of 312 miles. Jimmie Johnson is the present champion of the racing event having won it on April 12, 2008. It is one of the most watched racing events in Arizona.
