NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Kobalt Tools 500

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Kobalt Tools 500 Tickets

Held annually at one of the fastest race tracks on the Sprint Cup circuit, the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Kobalt Tools 500 has provided NASCAR fans with a history of exciting racing and thrilling finishes. Come to Atlanta this March to witness the 2010 installment of the Kobalt, and to see what the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers have in store for this page in the record books.

As the current host of the Kobalt Tools 500, the Atlanta Motor Speedway is a 1.54 mile quad-oval which includes 24 degrees of banking in each of the turns. Between the track’s high banking and the fact that the Kobalt 500 is not a restrictor plate race, the combination results in higher average speeds here in Atlanta than at even the faster superspeedways in Daytona and Talladega! To quickly summarize, the Kobalt Tools 500 is a very fast race, on a very fast track, and one with a truly great racing history.

The 2008 Kobalt Tools 500 saw Toyota make history when, for the very first time since 1954, a foreign auto maker was victorious in a NASCAR stock car race. Kyle Busch raced to victory in his Toyota after Carl Edwards, who had dominated nearly the entire race, had to pit once his car began smoking.

The 2009 race saw Kurt Busch fight off Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards to score his first victory of the season, after having led 235 laps on the way to doing so. Aside from Busch, Gordon and Edwards were the only other two drivers to lead more than 10 laps of that Kobalt Tools race; Busch led more laps in this race than the total number of laps (164) he led over the course of the entire 2008 season!

With Kurt Busch’s 2009 Kobalt Tools 500 victory, and brother Kyle's win in the previous race of the season (the Shelby 427), the two brothers had won back-to-back races for the second time in as many years; in 2008 Kurt won the first Loudon race, while Kyle followed with a win in the second Daytona race. Another milestone reached at last year’s Kobalt Tools race was that Bobby Labonte made his 550th career Cup Series start.

Sprint Cup fans should not forget to mark off March 7, 2010 on their calendars. Buy your tickets now for the next Kobalt Tools 500 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, because just like the track and the race, tickets for this event usually go very fast.
