The Belfast Kronk Boxing Gym was formed in the year 1996 in Ireland. Though this gym was previously known as the “Belfast ABC”, later the name of this gym was changed to “Belfast Kronk boxing Gym”. This famous gymnasium was located at the Duncairn Avenue. It was the fervent enthusiasm and the courageous activities of the local community that helped one to form this boxing club despite poor infrastructure and lack of modern amenities. Within a few days after the formation of this boxing club, young people used to congregate here to master various arts of boxing and this is the enthusiasm that helped this boxing club to retain popularity among the common masses.

It was the ardent contribution of six members which made it possible for this boxing club to grow at a rapid speed. Tony Dunlop, Jim Coogan, late Brian Rice etc are some of the founding members of this boxing club. But the contribution of Bobby McAllister has to be mentioned with special care. He was the coordinator of this project and it was his hard work and assiduousness that helped him to attain this goal of establishing this boxing club- Belfast Kronk Boxing Gym. He was one of the famous boxing trainers and in he has trained several boxers and some of them have earned a good reputation in the national and international arena as well. McAllister has groomed and trained some talented people. He has trained some famous boxing champions for example: Sean Russell, Roy Webb, Sam Storey etc.

This boxing club started with a small donation of 20 pounds. Though this was a paltry amount, later Kronk Boxing club consolidated its financial condition and now it has sound financial condition. This sound financial condition helped this boxing club to incorporate some modern amenities and this has helped to increase the attraction of this boxing club in Belfast region, Ireland. This boxing club was always working in collaboration with Bill Shaw who is the director of a Trust. Both the organizations have the same goal to improve the life standard of young people in that region by inspiring them to join and participate in boxing.

From the time of inception, the Belfast Kronk Boxing has always organized some boxing events in regular basis. The regular organization of boxing events helped many young talents to come to the forefront of this sport in national level. Some of the young talents of this region have won some prestigious boxing events and have brought some medals that also helped this boxing club to occupy a prominent place. This boxing club is a source of inspiration for the upcoming young talents in that region. Some of the young boxers are Sean Dowds, Andrew Rossbottom, Sean O’Neill, Caoimhin Stanton etc.

The fame of this small boxing club began to spread and in the year 2002, famous boxing coach of Detroit Kronk Boxing Gym, Emanuel Steward showed his interest about this small boxing club. In the year 2003, this club was visited by the famous former Heavyweight World Champion, Joe Frazier. Actually, it was the earnest endeavor of the members of this club and their perseverance that made it possible for Belfast Kronk Boxing club to occupy a conspicuous position in the sport map of Ireland.
