The athletic teams of Duke University are represented by the Duke Blue Devils, also known as the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils compete in the NCAA Division 1 tournament for the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Duke Blue Devils Men's Basketball Team represents the University in the field of Basketball. The Blue Devils are arch rivals of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Blue Devils home arena is the Cameron Indoor Stadium that is located on the West Campus of Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina. The stadium was inaugurated on January 6th 1940 at an initial cost of $400,000 at that time. This venue has a seating capacity of 9,314 seats. The Blue Devils had a decided home-court advantage for many years, due to a very strong fan base that was also known as the 'Cameron Crazies'. They used aggressive actions to create loud noises with the intent of distracting the opposition offenses.
The Duke Blue Devils have the second most championship wins in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) totaling an impressive 16, in the following order, 1960, 1963, 1964, 1966, 1978, 1986, 1988, 1992, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006. They trail by just one championship win to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
