The University of Kansas is a member of the Big 12 Conference. The citizens of Lawrence under a charter from the Kansas Legislature founded the University in the year 1865. It is located in Lawrence, Kansas. The sports teams of the University are known as the Kansas Jayhawks or simply the Jayhawks.

The Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team is one of the most popular collegiate basketball teams in America. The game was started in 1891 in the University of Kansas. The team has won a total of fifty-two Big 12 Conference titles. It is the winner of the last three consecutive conference titles. James Naismith was the first coach and also the founder of the men's basketball team.

Allen Fieldhouse is home to the Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball teams. The team has won the NCAA national championships in 1952, 1988 and 2008. It stands at the third rank in the NCAA Division I with 1,943 wins against 785 losses, the top two teams being the Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball and North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball teams.

The Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball team played their first ever game in the NCAA Division I in the year 1898 under the head coach James Naismith. Later on, the team has had many famous and experienced coaches. Phog Allen, Adolph Rupp, Dean Smith, Dutch Lonborg, John McLendon and Ralph Miller are a few to name. Bill Self is the current head coach of the team.
