The Miami Hurricanes football team represents the University of Miami in the Atlantic coast Conference of the NCAA Division I. The University of Miami was founded in the year 1925 in the city of Coral Gables in suburban Miami. The sports teams of the university are nicknamed as the Hurricanes.
The football program of the University of Miami is a prominent collegiate team in America. They have been the most successful team in NCAA history. The football program in the university was founded in the year 1926. They have won a total of five NCAA championships. Some of the notable Hurricane players include Vinny Testaverde, Gino Torretta, Ted Hendricks, Michael Irvin, Ottis Anderson, Ray Lewis, Jim Kelly and Jim Otto. Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta, were both Heisman Trophy winners. Randy Shannon currently coaches the team. He was introduced as the head coach of the Miami Hurricanes football team on December 8, 2006.
The Miami Hurricanes football team plays its home games at the Dolphin Stadium. It was inaugurated on August 16, 1987 and it had also been home to the Miami Dolphins (NFL), Florida Marlins (MLB) and Florida Atlantic Owls (NCAA). Presently, apart from University of Miami's football program, it has also been playing host to the FedEx Orange Bowl. The stadium can facilitate 76,500 people during football programs.
