BCS Championship Game Tickets
Marking the end of yet another electrifying season of college football, the 2010 Citi BCS National Championship Game is scheduled to take place at the historic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, where the exciting match-up between the #1 and #2 BCS-ranked teams will decide the National Champion.
First implemented for the 1998 season, the purpose of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) was to attempt to provide a clear-cut national champion for college football, while not only maintaining but enhancing the nearly 100-year-old college bowl system. As the BCS nears the end of its third four-year cycle, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is proud and honored to host such a pivotal game in the world of college football.
The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) is a five-game series of college football bowl games, created with the intention of matching the #1 and #2 ranked teams in a game to determine the National Championship, while providing four other exciting games amongst eight of the other most highly ranked teams in college football that season. The five BCS bowl games are the Fiesta Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, and the BCS National Championship Game which is alternated among the different BCS bowl sites each year.
The 2008 BCS National Championship Game was sponsored by Allstate, and played at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The game showcased the #2 LSU Tigers against the #1 Ohio State Buckeyes. In addition to earning the distinction of being the first team with two losses to play in a BCS National Championship Game, LSU defeated Ohio State by a score of 38-24, also making them the first team to win two BCS National Championships.
Last year, at Miami’s LandShark Stadium, the BCS Championship Game was sponsored by FedEx, and matched the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners against the #2 Florida Gators. Florida’s defeat of Oklahoma by a score of 24-14 not only gave them the title of BCS National Champion, but left them ranked first in both the final USA Today and AP polls, while also having become only the second team to win two BCS National Championships.
It looks as though this season’s top two teams will once again be a pair of college football’s traditional powerhouses. Will the Texas Longhorns make it to the big game, earning a chance to win their second BCS title? Will the Florida Gators get an opportunity to win back-to-back crowns, thus defending their title and becoming the first 3-time BCS Champion? Will there be someone else thrown into the mix unexpectedly? Regardless of which two teams take the field, make sure you are there by getting your tickets now for the Citi BCS National Championship Game on January 7, 2010, in Pasadena, California.
