The Iowa State Cyclones football team is a collegiate football program that represents the Iowa State University in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. The Cyclones are a member of the Big 12 Conference. The Iowa State University was established in the year 1858 and is located in Ames, Iowa.

The Iowa State Cyclones kicked off in the intercollegiate football tournament in the year 1892. Until the 1895 season, the Cyclones were known as the Cardinals. In 1894, the team officially got sanctioned and in that season the team finished with a 6-1 record including a 16-8 victory over the University of Iowa. Many coaches throughout its history have coached the team. Currently, Gene Chizik is the head coach of the Cyclones. In November 2006, he was hired as the head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones football team.

Jack Trice Stadium is home to the Iowa State Cyclones football team. The stadium was inaugurated on September 20, 1975 and it has a seating capacity for 55,000 spectators. It was named in honor of the university's first African American athlete, Jack Trice. The inaugural game at the stadium was played between the Cyclones and the United States Air Force Academy football team (Falcons), where the latter was defeated by the Cyclones. The Jack Trice stadium has a current record of the highest attendance at 56,795 spectators on September 8, 2007.
