The football program was introduced in the Kansas State University in the year 1896. The Wildcats had been a great team through the 1920s and 1930s. Some of the former notable players of the team include Ralph Graham, Henry Cronkite, George Maddox and Elmer Hackney. The team had been coached by a number of Hall of Fame coaches throughout its history. Z.G. Clevenger, Charles Bachman, Alvin "Bo" McMillin, Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf are a few to name. In the 1980s, they were known as one of the worst programs in the NCAA. It was in the year 1989, when the legendary coach, Bill Snyder joined the team and led the Wildcats to their present day success. They appeared at the #1 in a national ranking during the 1998 season and won the Big 12 Conference championship in 2003. The current head coach, Ron Prince replaced Bill Snyder in the year 2005.
The Kansas State Wildcats play their home games at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The stadium was inaugurated as the KSU Stadium on September 21, 1968 with a seating capacity of 35,000. Later in 2005, it was renamed the Bill Snyder Family Stadium to honor the family of the former legendary head coach, Bill Snyder, who led the team for a long period of seventeen years. The stadium has undergone renovation many times and currently it can seat up to 50,000 spectators.
