The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team represents the University of Nebraska- Lincoln in college football in the NCAA Division I. The team is a member of the Big 12 Conference. The University of Nebraska- Lincoln is popularly known as the UNL and is located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Under the provisions of the Morrill Act, the university was established in the year 1869. It sponsors a total of 21 varsity teams in 14 different sports in the NCAA Division I.

The Cornhuskers football was inaugurated in the year 1890 and their inaugural game was against the Omaha YMCA on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1890. In the last 50 years, the Cornhuskers are the highest winning college football program, both by winning percentage and number of wins. They have an all time record of 808–334–40. They have won 46 conference championships and five national championships in their history. Some of the famous former players as well as the Heisman Trophy winners of the team include Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier and Eric Crouch. Johnny Rodgers, Mike Rozier, Guy Chamberlin, Sam Francis, Rich Glover and Dave Rimington are some of the notable Cornhuskers who have been inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame. The team has had many College Football Hall of Fame coaches. Bo Pelini is the current head coach of the Cornhuskers. He has replaced the previous legendary coach, Tom Osborne on December 2, 2007.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers play their home games at the Memorial Stadium. It was inaugurated on October 20, 1923. John Latenser, Sr. designed the stadium and it was named Memorial Stadium to honor the Nebraskans who served in the Civil and Spanish-American Wars and those who laid their lives in World War I. The stadium can seat up to 81,067 spectators.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Cowgirls are the college sports teams that represent the Oklahoma State University- Stillwater. The university is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Under the Morrill Act, it was established in the year 1890. The sports programs of the university participate in the NCAA Division I-A and also in the Big 12 Conference's South Division. The Oklahoma State University was originally known as the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (Oklahoma A&M) and the Cowboys and Cowgirls were formerly known as the Oklahoma A&M Aggies.

The Oklahoma A&M Aggies football team was founded in the 1901 season. The Aggies joined their first conference, Southwest Conference in the 1915 season. They were in the conference till 1924. In 1925, the Aggies became a member of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association and then a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. On May 15, 1957, the university changed its name to Oklahoma State University and the Aggies came to be known as the Cowboys and Cowgirls. The Oklahoma State Cowboys football team joined the Big 7 Conference in the year 1958, then the Big 8 Conference after one year and in 1997, they became a member of the Big 12 Conference. Barry Sanders was one of the notable Cowboys and a Heisman Trophy winner who had led the team to its greatest success in the 1988 season. Mike Gundy currently coaches the Cowboys. He was a former quarterback of the cowboys who became the head coach on January 3, 2005.

The Boone Pickens Stadium is home to the Oklahoma State Cowboys football team. It was formerly known as the Lewis Field. It has a seating capacity for 44,700 spectators.
