PetroSun Independence Bowl Tickets
The Independence Bowl is a post-season NCAA-sanctioned Division I college football bowl game. It is played annually at the Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Previously the game pitted the champion of the Southland conference against ? and it is only in the year 1995 that it began featuring a Southeastern Conference school against an at-large opponent. Since the year 1998 the game has normally featured a match up between teams representing the Big 12 Conference and the SEC. The teams from other conferences are included only if there is a scarcity of bowl-eligible teams.
Poulan sponsored the game until the year 1996, leading some fans to label it the "Weedwacker Bowl." Since then there have been different sponsors like Newell Rubbermaid's Sanford brand from the years 1998 until 2000 and MainStay Investments from the years 2001 to 2003. The three-year search for a title sponsor ended on August 21, 2006 when PetroSun Inc., a Phoenix, Arizona-based company that provides services and products to suppliers of oil and gas, agreed to become the bowl's sponsor.
Independence Stadium is an arena owned by the City of Shreveport and is the home of the Independence Bowl. It was formerly known as the State Fair Stadium. The stadium is also host to numerous high school football games and soccer matches, since many schools in Shreveport lack an on-campus facility. Independence Stadium was eventually chosen to host the first preseason home game for the Saints for the 2006-2007 season. Middle school football teams occasionally play at the Independence Stadium.
