The members of 12v Negative Earth met in grade school. The bassist was encouraged to play by his grandmother. The guitarist was encouraged to play by his grade school teacher. 12v Negative Earth started playing at the local bar Hypocrite. Music of the 1960s heavily influenced the early work of the band.
12v Negative Earth met with a local DJ from X89.9 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The band a huge draw with fan clubs in every city.
12v Negative Earth realized they had finally made it in 1991, after the band's first fan club was started by Mandy Casas. Starting out in Los Angeles with a few dozen members, the club grew fast, eclipsing a couple thousand country wide in under a year.
