Malcolm, Angus, and George Young were born in Glasgow, Scotland and in their childhood moved to Sydney in 1963. After getting interested in music, the group decided to start up a band. The bands name originated after seeing the initials AC/DC for alternating current/direct current on a sewing machine. The group believed the name symbolized the group’s raw energy and power driven performances, including their love for music. In Australia, the group is known as Acca Dacca.

In 1973 the band formed the group and recruited bassist Larry Van Kriedt, vocalist Dave Evans, and Colin Burgess, ex-Masters Apprentices drummer. They started playing in a club named Chequers in Sydney. The soon were noticed and signed to the EMI-distributed Albert Productions label in both Australia and New Zealand. After a few changes, the band’s artists had stabilized, featuring the new drummer Phil Rudd. The single It’s a long Way to the Top (If you Wanna Rock n Roll) became the group’s perennial rock anthem. It was included on the album T.N.T as well as the classic song High Voltage.

After regular appearances on Countdown, a pop-music television show, AC/DC became the most popular acts in Australia, quickly spreading across the world as a famous band. Soon the fame would come to a screeching halt with the death of Scott.

After Scott’s death, the band debated quitting singing, but decided to honor the thoughts of Scott by continuing the band with replacement Buzz Shearmen, but he was ineligible due to voice problems and Brian Johnson joined the band. The album Back in Black was released shortly after by Compass Point Studios, creating their biggest selling album and a hard rock gem, including Hells Bells and You Shook Me All Night Long.

On 18 August 2008, Columbia Records announced the new album 18 October Australian release, and 20 October worldwide release, of the studio album Black Ice. The 15 track album became the first release in eight years, and sparked a new concert tour.
