Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys seemingly meteoric rise in 2001 with Songs in A Minor has a long back story that began she was four. AT the age of four she got her first taste of acting as one of the slumber party guests for Rudy on The Cosby Show. It was three years after that appearance that she began to play the piano.
Keys was a very talented musician and was accepted to the Professional Performing Arts School, a prestigious high school in Manhattan. She graduated at the age of 16 as the valedictorian of her class. Columbia University offered her a scholarship, but the singer/songwriter decided to forgo college and jump into the music world. She was initially signed by Columbia Records, but was dropped soon after writing “Dah Dee Dah (Sexy Thing)” for the Men in Black in soundtrack.
Alicia Keys had the fortune of meeting Clive Davis and signing with Arista Records. Although Arista would disband, she followed Clive Davis to his new record label, J Records. There she again worked on several songs for movie soundtracks, but was given the chance to record a debut album. That album was Songs in A Minor and was the first of four straight number one albums.
She has become one the most recognizable names in R&B, and has won 20 Grammy Awards in her short seven year career. The talented musician has also started a burgeoning acting career, playing an assassin in Smokin’ Aces and the best friend of Scarlett Johansson’s character in The Nanny Diaries.
