American English began playing together while they were in grade school. The lead singer used to listen to radio constantly as a child. American English began playing at the local club Chief. The group used to practice at the lead singer's basement.

American English were still not sure if they would make it after getting a record. They had heard too many stories and knew that they were in no position to expect anything. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller clubs in which they began.

American English accepted that they were truly working musicians in 1999, when Debbie Felson started the band’s first fan club. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Kathleen Moran created a website for the group and a national tour gave the group plenty of exposure.

American English hope to collaborate with other artists during this tour. The band has just completed their latest release, and they are already planning their next move. American English's newest project took five months to put together.
