Ash began playing together while they were in middle school. The lead singer wanted to start a group since he was in middle school. Ash started performing at the local club Nina's. Dolly Parton heavily influenced the early work of the group.

Ash’s first album did not sell well, but received critical acclaim. The second album was a hit and the band was saved from being released by the record company. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller venues which they began.

Ash realized that the possibility of living life as actual musicians was a distinct possibility when Carol Reiner started a fan club for the band in 1983. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand across the nation.

After this last busy year the members of Ash will take some time off to recharge. The group has just finished their latest project, but they are planning the next release already.

Ash's concerts always have the audience singing by the end of the show.
