Asylum Street Spankers began playing together in 1993. The drummer used to listen to radio constantly as a child. The guitarist discovered his love of music while listening to his grandfather's collection of records. Asylum Street Spankers began playing at the college dive bar Anyplace. The group used to practice at the drummer's house.
Asylum Street Spankers’s first album was a dud, but the second finally got some exposure. The band does not have a problem selling out any venue now, small or large. A member of Asylum Street Spankers started dating a girl whose fatherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The band members were excited to have the opportunity to make an album and quit their day jobs that supported them while they worked hard at night to make their dreams happen.
Asylum Street Spankers realized that they were real working musicians when Jenny Greczkowski started a fan club for the group in 2000. The fan club may have just started out with a few members that followed the band when the played in small clubs, but it quickly grew to thousands after the group released its first album and started touring nationally.
The group may have recently finished their most current project, but they are already plotting the next move. Asylum Street Spankers intends to spend some time apart after the tour, allowing the group members to rest.
