Balkan Beat Box’s members met in grade school. The Benagls heavily influenced the early work of the band. Balkan Beat Box began performing at Clerk, a college bar. The drummer discovered his love of music while listening to his grandfather's music collection.
Balkan Beat Box were unsure about their music careers with the release of their first recording, and were relieved after their music began climbing the charts ad getting lots of play on the radio. The group a huge draw with fan clubs in every city. Balkan Beat Box met with a local DJ from Z101.1 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. All the members quit their other jobs to focus on their album.
Balkan Beat Box accepted that they had a real chance to become a headlining national act when the band’s first fan club was started by Lizzie Avondale in 1997. After the group’s first North American tour, the fan club grew from the couple dozen fans who heard the band play around Albany to the thousands who heard them play across the nation.
Balkan Beat Box's new record is the band's first since the group members went to work on independent projects six years ago. The group may have recently finished their new project, but they are thinking of what is next to come. Members of Balkan Beat Box see this tour as a chance to expose another group of fans to their music.
