Brendan James started playing at the local bar Beach. The lead singer wanted to start a band since he was in high school. The lead singer used to annoy his grandfather by playing his favorite music too loud. The members of Brendan James met in high school. The group was influenced by the Mamas and the Papas.

Brendan James met with a local DJ from Q97.9 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song.
