Brigade’s members met in 1998. The lead singer was encouraged to play by his mother. Brigade began performing at Solace, a college club. The band was influenced by jazz.

Brigade were happy to get the record deal, but were not sure how far they would go. The release of their first single convinced them that they were right where they should be after their songs began to get lots of radio play. Brigade was discovered after their single was heard on a local music hour on X103.1.
