Broken Social Scene started playing at the college dive bar Cafeteria. The lead singer used to listen to radio constantly as a teenager. The drummer used to annoy his father by playing his favorite CD nonstop. Broken Social Scene began playing together in 1975. The group kept requesting that the local radio station to play their song.
Broken Social Scene met with a local DJ from B96.1 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The bandplayed anywhere that would have them in the beginning. Broken Social Scene signed the record deal, but were not expecting the next step to be any easier. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in the smaller bars in which they started.
Broken Social Scene finally realized they made it in 1992, as soon as Liz Kloiber started the band’s first fan club. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in Albany to a few thousand across the country.
Broken Social Scene hope to collaborate with other artists while they tour. The group recently completed their latest project, and they are plotting their next move already. Broken Social Scene's most current release is the band's first release since the band broke up four years ago.
