Calico System began singing at Anyplace, a local bar. The guitarist used to listen to his sibling's tape constantly as a teenager. The drummer was encouraged to play by his family. Calico System’s members were friends in grade school. The group begged the local radio station to play their first single.

Calico System's most current album took three months to produce. The group is in the second leg of the tour accompanying for their latest album.

A member of Calico System started dating a girl whose grandmotherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The group members quit their other jobs to focus on their album. Calico System continued to work hard, scared they would just be another one hit wonder.

Calico System realized that they were real working musicians as soon as Linda Moran started a fan club for the band in 1988. Starting out in Concord with a few dozen members, the club grew fast, eclipsing a couple thousand all across the country in under a year.

Calico System respects the fact that their fans love their past records, so they go to great effort to incorporate the older hits with the most current ones. The band has a love affair with San Francisco so they are sure to stop by and play a show whenever they are touring.
