Every summer, Campus Festival is one Albany’s most well known festivals. The festival was started in 1990 after a couple residents decided the season needed something to look forward to. George Wolbert was hit by inspiration while listening to his favorite cassette tape and finished all the details for Campus Festival in one night. The new event did not receive much financial support or much advertising, so the festival started out pretty small, with a lot of the city's performers..

After a couple of years Campus Festival began to develop a following The tour began to book acts that were known nationally and the festival started to get much press than when it began. Soon hotel rooms in the city were being booked months in advance for the dates around Campus Festival.

Now Campus Festival sells out months in advance, with tickets generally gone before the first week of their being released. Organizers of the festival no that they have a responsibility to ask local groups to play, even though they could probably get just about any group they want. Campus Festival seems to get bigger every year, with more stages and more acts every time around.
