Candlebox was the rare successful alternative rock group from the ‘90s that was not a grunge group. The group, with lead singer and guitarist Kevin Martin, guitarist Peter Klett, drummer Scott Mercado, and bassist Bardi Martin, even performed on stage with grunge groups in Seattle as they were coming up, but ultimately the group always identified more with rock and roll than grunge.

It found an audience that did as well. The self-titled debut album made Candlebox a world famous group in 1993. It reached number seven on the U.S. charts and was certified platinum four times. Singles like “You”, “Far Behind”, and “Cover Me” landed in the top ten on the US mainstream rock charts and the band toured before sodl out concerts.

Candlebox released tow more albums that decade Lucy (1995) and Happy Pills (1998), but could not get passed gold certification. Trouble started to loom internally, and Mercado and Bardi Martin left the group to pursue other interests. By 2000, the group disbanded.

Six years later the original lineup met up and decided to reunite after releasing The Best of Candlebox, the group toured for three months. Two years later the group has remained largely intact, sans Bardi Martin. The group has released a new material for the first time in over a decade with the newest full-length album, Into the Sun.

Candlebox has planned a 50-tour date concert schedule to accompany the July 22, 2008 release of the album. The group will travel throughout the United States, starting in Omaha, Nebraska on June 13 and finishing in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 10.
