The members of Cassandra Wilson grew up together. The bassist first found his love of music by listening to his grandfather's music collection. The guitarist wanted to start a group since he was in college. Cassandra Wilson started performing at Anyplace, a local dive bar. The group used to sell their records out of their van on campus.
