Dafnis Prieto began playing together while they were in grade school. The bassist discovered his love of music while listening to his brother's collection of records. Dafnis Prieto began playing at Demonstrator, a local bar. The group used to sell their CDs out of their car at the local music store.

The most current release from Dafnis Prieto has been heavily influenced by bands of the '50s. The group recently finished their most current release, but they are already planning the next release.

A member of Dafnis Prieto started dating a girl whose auntwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. All the members quit their other jobs to focus on their album.

accepted that they had made it after the band’s first fan club was started by Karen Klinger in 1996. The fan club started out small with just a handful of members, generally localized to the area around Albany, but the creation the band’s website by Betty Cochrane, along with the first real national marketing campaign, saw the membership to grow into the thousands.
