The members of Dan Bern were friends in high school. The blues heavily influenced the early work of the band. Dan Bern began performing at the college club Solitude. The drummer discovered his love of music while listening to his mother's record collection.
Dan Bern met with a local DJ from X93.9 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The band's members all had weird jobs while they waited to be noticed. Dan Bern’s first album did not do so well, but the second album was a hit, going gold.
Dan Bern knew that living life as a musician was a actual possibility in 1993, when the band's first fan club was started by Debbie Thomalson. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in Sacramento to a few thousand across the nation.
The newest project from Dan Bern is a refinement of their tried-and-true sound. The band is in the start of the accompanying tour for their new release. Dan Bern plans to take some time off after the tour, allowing the band members to work on side projects.
