Dance Escape’s members were friends in grade school. Bobby Darin heavily influenced the early work of the group. Dance Escape began playing at the college bar Beach. The lead singer used to listen to his mother's cassette tape constantly as a child.

Dance Escape were unsure about their music careers with the release of their debut single, and were relieved after their music began climbing the charts ad getting lots of play on the radio. Now the band is a huge draw wherever they play.

Dance Escape accepted that they had a real chance to become a headlining national act when Angela Innocent started a fan club for the group in 1992. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand nation wide.
