Daughtry’s members were friends in high school. Music of the '70s heavily influenced the early work of the group. Daughtry started singing at the local dive bar Beach. The bassist used to fall asleep with a CDplaying as a teenager.

After paying their dues and opening shows for years, Daughtry was signed to a record deal. Daughtry were still a little worried after they released their first release, but were relieved when the release began to get some radio play.

Daughtry realized that they were truly working musicians after Margie Ullmann started the first fan club for the group in 1997. Starting out with just a few dozen members in Springfield, the fan club quickly grew with band’s national tour and the launching of the band’s website by Michelle Quinn.
