Deichkind started performing at the local dive bar Overview. The drummer wanted to start a group since he was in grade school. The guitarist use to listen to tape constantly as a teenager. Deichkind began playing together in 1979. The group was influenced by music of the 1960s.

Deichkind's most current project is a refinement of their previous sound. The band has just finished their new album, and they are thinking of what is next to come. Members of Deichkind hope this next tour brings in more fans than ever.

Deichkind’s first album failed to sell, but the second album saved them from obscurity. The band really enjoys performing and is playing almost nightly for fans.

Deichkind realized that their dream of making an actual life for themselves as musicians had come true in 1982, after Debbie Neilson started the group’s first fan club. The fan club grew quickly from a few dozen members in a few cities to a few thousand across the nation.
