Dianne Reeves, a resident of Denver in Colorado, is known more for her stage performances than her recorded albums. She is among the most significant jazz vocalist of modern times. Her birthplace is Detroit in Michigan. She grew up in a very musical ambience as her family had members engaged in different types of music. She lost her father who was a vocalist when she was a baby of two years, her mother was a trumpet player, and her cousin George Duke was an eminent keyboardist. She and her sister were brought up by her grandmother in Colorado. She had piano classes and sang whenever she got a chance. She felt interested towards music and started singing. Charles Burell who was her uncle played bass in the Denver Symphony Orchestra and acquainted his niece with their music where she greatly loved the music of Sarah Vaughan.

When she was 16 years old she was a part of the high school band of George Washington High School in Denver who participated in the Convention of the National Association of Jazz Educators festival of music and got the first position. Here she met Clark Terry the trumpet player who after a time became her guide and made her work in the correct way to reach the position which she gained. She started to learn music at the age of 17 at University of Colorado till she got shifted to Los Angeles in the year 1976. She developed her passion for Latin American music while living in Los Angeles. She tried to check her singing capability in different types of music and at last became determined to establish her professional life as a vocalist. Dianne got introduced to Eduardo Del Barrio and with the band Caldera of Barrio went to tours. She and Sergio Mendes too made a tour. As a main vocalist she went on tour in 1983 with the famous Harry Belafonte and continued till 1986. The phase from 1983 to 1986 witnessed her first appearance in the world of music. Dianne Reeves was the earliest female singer getting contracted with the Blue Note/EMI Label. She again came to her native land Denver in 1992. At the age of 46 in the year 2002 she performed a track at the finishing show of the Winter Olympic Games in 2002 venue at Salt Lake City.

Dianne Reeves has got many honours and praises for her beautiful singing quality. She is the single female vocalist to get Grammy for three successive years. Till the present time she has received four Grammy Awards on the category of Best Jazz Vocal Performance. She won her first Grammy award in 2001 for In the Moment, the next year she again got Grammy for The Calling, in 2003 she was honoured with Grammy for A Little Moonlight and with a gap of two years she won another Grammy in 2006 for the music track Good Night and Good Luck.
