Dropkick Murphys Tickets
The Dropkick Murphys have become the unofficial band of Boston sports, Irish-American angst, and rowdy bar fights everywhere. Their Celtic punk sound was fine tuned in the basement of friend’s barbershop in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1996. Their music combines the blue collar punk music of the late ‘70s, traditional Irish music, and hardcore punk, finding inspiration from groups like Stiff Little Finger, The Clash, and The Dubliners.
The band’s ever changing lineup now includes Tim Brennan, James Lynch, Al Barr, Ken Casey, Matt Kelly, Scruffy Wallace, and Jeff DaRosa. The band has become famous for their fighting Irish persona and memorable singles. The Departed did a large part to move them beyond a St. Patrick’s Day group when it chose to open the movie with “Shipping Out to Boston”. The highly anticipated film did wonders for the Dropkick Murphys, but their heavy tour schedule that had them on the road playing concerts non-stop has built a solid fan base that would have bought tickets to their shows even if the nation had not discovered the group in 2006.
Dropkick Murphys songs have become an integral part of the Boston sports landscape, as “Tessie” became the official song of the Red Sox in 2004 when they won the World Series. Closer John Papelbon uses “Shipping Up to Boston” as his entrance song in a similar fashion to Wild Thing from the movie Major League.
The group albums have begun to chart due to their new found recognition with 2007’s The Meanest Times peaking at number 20 on the charts. The boys will be heading back out on tour on July 7, 2008 when they start a 13-date tour schedule with a concert in Chicago. Dropkick Murphys will hit several clubs, but will also do a circuit at Boston Red Sox minor league affiliate’s fields.
