The members of Ed Reed met in 1977. The guitaristdiscovered his love of music by listening to his sister's music collection. Ed Reed started playing at Demonstrator, a college bar. The group was influenced by Johnny Cash.

Ed Reed talked to a local music director from Z95.5 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after Ed Reed was signed. The group members were excited to have the opportunity to make an album and quit their day jobs that supported them while they worked hard at night to make their dreams happen. Ed Reed’s first release climbed the charts quickly, giving them national exposure.
