Ed Roland began singing at the college club Waif. The lead singer used to listen to his sibling's CD constantly as a child. The guitarist was heavily influenced by his mother's love for music. Ed Roland began playing together in 1978. The band had their friends call into the local radio station to play their songs.

Ed Roland was discovered after their single was heard on K102.5. All the members quit their other jobs to focus on their album. Even after getting the record deal Ed Roland were not sure if they would make it in the end. The band really enjoys performing and is playing almost nightly before fans.

Ed Roland realized they had finally made it when the band’s first fan club was started by Patricia Hart in 1991. The fan club quickly grew from a few dozen in San Antonio to a few thousand country wide.
