Evergreen Terrace started performing at the college club Lawsuit. The group used to practice at the drummer's house. Evergreen Terrace began playing together in 1982. The drummerdiscovered his love of music by listening to his sister's collection of records.

Evergreen Terrace met with a local DJ from Q91.9 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song.
