Fettes Brot began playing together in 1981. The band was influenced by early jazz. Fettes Brot began playing at Query, a local club. One of the group's members found his love of music by listening to his sibling's music collection.

Fettes Brot were still not sure if they would make it after getting a record. They had heard too many stories and knew that they were in no position to expect anything.
