Galactic started singing at the local dive bar Dancer. The blues heavily influenced the early work of the group. The members of Galactic were friends in grade school. The bassist discovered his love of music while listening to his mother's collection of records.

Galactic talked to a local music director from B90.5 and got their single on air. The girlfriend of a record executive heard the song and soon after Galactic was signed. Galactic were still a little worried after they released their first single, but were relieved when the release began to get some radio play.
