Garotas Suecas began singing at the local club Nina's. Ozzy Osborne heavily influenced the early work of the group. Garotas Suecas’s members met in 2000. The guitarist wanted to start a band since he was in high school.
Garotas Suecas were uneasy after releasing the first album, but were happy when they heard their music on the radio for the first time. The group is on the road all the time now promoting their album before sold out venues.
Garotas Suecas knew that they could really have a career in music when the band’s first fan club was started in 1997 by Barbara Tomaselli. The fan club started out small with just a handful of members, generally localized to the area around Houston, but the creation the band’s website by Virginia Okerblom, along with the first real national marketing campaign, saw the membership to grow into the thousands.
The group recently finished their latest record, and they are already planning their next move. Garotas Suecas's members are expecting to bring in a new audience with this tour and the new project.
Generally, critics have commended Garotas Suecas for their ability to rile up the audience during live shows. A music critic from Phoenix, George Parquette, has always been a fan of band’s great skill on their instruments. Garotas Suecas’s latest record has received superb praise from Scott Tomaselli, a music critic out of San Francisco, and Vince Leffelman, from New York.
