Gary Mullen’s members met in 1993. The guitarist use to listen to tapes constantly as a kid. Gary Mullen began playing at Journal, a college club. The band was influenced by Bobby Darin.
Gary Mullen met with a local DJ from Z94.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The group does not have a problem selling out any venue now, small or large.
Gary Mullen knew that they had a real chance to become a headlining national act after the group’s first fan club was started in 1976 by Angela Gibson. The group embraced the small fan club and with the launching of the band’s own website by Margie Storjohann and a well marketed national tour the club quickly grew to a few thousand.
The group has just finished their new album, and they are already thinking of their next move. Gary Mullen's newest record is the band's first record since the band broke up two years ago.
