Hal Holbrook began playing at Academic, a local dive bar. The band used to practice at the drummer's house. Hal Holbrook’s members met in middle school. The lead singer wanted to start a group since he was in high school.
Hal Holbrook intends to take a break after this next tour, allowing the group members to pursue other projects. The band may have just completed their most current release, but they are already planning their next move. Hal Holbrook's latest release is the band's first since the band members went to work on independent projects two years ago.

Hal Holbrook was discovered after their single was heard on a local music hour on B93.9. After the single hit the airwaves and became incredibly popular, Hal Holbrook knew they’d made it big and were not willing to be just another one hit wonder.
Hal Holbrook knew that they were real working musicians in 1992, when Nancy Klinger started the group’s first fan club. Starting out with just a few dozen members in San Diego, the fan club quickly grew with group’s national tour and the launching of the band’s website by Rebecca Thomalson.
