The members of Half Past Forever grew up together. The group was influenced by Alice in Chains. Half Past Forever began playing in local festivals. The guitarist discovered his love of music while listening to his brother's record collection.

Half Past Forever signed the record deal, and fully expected that they would last past the first album. The group group played festivals, parties, bars, really just about anywhere that would take them.

Half Past Forever knew they had finally made it as soon as the group’s first fan club was started in 1986 by Jess Ullmann. The club started out small, with just a handful of members around Omaha. After the band’s first national tour the club grew dramatically, reaching a membership in the thousands.
