Hanzel & Gretyl started singing at Attorney, a college bar. The group begged the local radio station to play their first release. Hanzel & Gretyl began playing together in 1979. The guitarist use to listen to CD constantly as a child.

Hanzel & Gretyl were sure that they would make it after signing the record deal. They had heard stories of others still failing, but were sure they would be one of those bands. The group played for little to no money at first and was just happy to be given a chance to be heard.

Hanzel & Gretyl finally realized they made it when the group’s first fan club was started by Jess Fraiser in 1997. Starting out in Washington, D.C. with a few dozen members, the club grew fast, eclipsing a couple thousand across the country in under a year.

After this past hectic year the members of Hanzel & Gretyl will spend some time apart to work on side projects. The band may have recently completed their new project, but they are already thinking of their next move. The newest project from Hanzel & Gretyl is the group's first album in eight years.

Often times critics will praise Hanzel & Gretyl for their ability to rile up the crowd at live performances.
