The members of Hapa met in high school. The group was influenced by Alice in Chains. Hapa started singing at Deputy, a college dive bar. One of the group's members used to annoy his sister by playing his favorite CD at all hours of the night.

The years of paying their dues paid off when Hapa signed a record deal. The band regularly played at City before making it to the big time.
