hippiefest began performing at the local dive bar Beach. The band used to practice at the guitarist's basement. The members of hippiefest were friends in college. The guitarist used to listen to his grandfather's tape constantly as a teenager.

hippiefest met with a local DJ from X99.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The group members were excited that all the parties they had played had paid off. The group really enjoys performing and is playing almost nightly before fans.

hippiefest accepted the fact that their dream of making a life as musicians had come true when the group’s first fan club was started by Nancy Nassau in 1978. Starting out in Detroit with a few dozen members, the club grew fast, eclipsing a couple thousand across the world in under a year.

hippiefest's most current album has been heavily influenced by old blues artists. The group just finished their most current release, but they are already planning their next move. hippiefest's members are expecting to bring in a whole new group of fans with this tour and the newest album.
