Ian Cooke began playing at Key, a local club. The lead singer use to listen to tape constantly as a kid. The guitarist was heavily influenced by his aunt's love for music. Ian Cooke’s members grew up together. The group used to sell their tapes out of their truck on the street.

Ian Cooke met with a local DJ from Z96.5 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The band's members all had weird jobs while they waited to be noticed. The band continues to play large venues, but still enjoys performing in smaller clubs on occasion.

Ian Cooke knew they made it in 1991, when the group's first fan club was started by Martha Judge. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Jen Richardson created a website for the group and a national tour gave the group plenty of exposure.

Ian Cooke's most current release is a refinement of their established sound. The band is in the start of the accompanying tour for their new project. After this last busy year the members of Ian Cooke will take a break to pursue other projects.
