Ida Maria’s members met in 1988. The band was influenced by Aretha Franklin. Ida Maria started singing at the college club Governor. The lead singerdiscovered his love of music by listening to his dad's collection of records.

Ida Maria was discovered after their single was heard on a local music hour on Z93.9. The bandstarted headlining shows as soon as they started playing together. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in smaller bars in which they started.

Ida Maria knew that they were truly working musicians as soon as Kimberly Easley started a fan club for the group in 1997. The club started out in Austin with a handful of members, but grew tremendously once their singles started getting national air time.

Ida Maria plans to take a break after this next tour, allowing the group members to recharge after a long tour. The group recently completed their latest album, and they are thinking of what is to come next. The new release from Ida Maria took four months to put together.
