Ilgi began playing at Kismet, a college bar. The lead singer use to listen to record constantly as a child. The lead singer wanted to start a band since he was in middle school. The members of Ilgi met in middle school. The band begged the local radio station to play their single.

Ilgi was discovered after their single was heard on a local music hour on Q90.9. The bandplayed anywhere that would have them in the beginning. The group plays plenty of arenas, but would rather play in smaller bars in which they started.

Ilgi realized they made it as soon as Jessica Wilmouth started a fan club for the group in 1997. After starting out with a handful of members in Buffalo, the club took off exponentially, growing to over two thousand in just a few months.

Ilgi intends to take some time off after this next tour, allowing the group members to rest after a long year. The group is in the start of the tour accompanying for their most current release. Ilgi's most current project is the group's sixth album.
