The Indigo Girls have their roots set in elementary school. The singer/songwriting duo Amy Ray and Emily Saliers knew each other as children in Dekalb County in Georgia. By high school the two had become friends and were performing together. After the two both transferred to Emory University, the duo began to perform in the same rock scene as The B-52s, R.E.M., and Pylon.
