J Geils Band began playing together in 1993. The guitarist use to listen to record constantly as a kid. The bassist discovered his love of music while listening to his father's collection of records. J Geils Band started performing at Anyplace, a college bar. The band used to practice at the drummer's garage.

The new album from J Geils Band is the group's first album in two years. The group recently completed their new release, and they are planning the next release already. J Geils Band intends to take some time off after the tour, to allow the band members to work on side projects.

Generally, critics praise J Geils Band for their ability to rile up the audience during live performances. J Geils Band met with a local DJ from Z97.1 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the band. The bandplayed anywhere that would have them in the beginning. J Geils Band were sure that they would make it after signing the record deal. They had heard stories of others still failing, but were sure they would be one of those bands.

J Geils Band knew that they had a real chance to become a headlining national act in 1976, when the group's first fan club was started by Jess Richardson. After starting out with a handful of members in Washington, D.C., the club took off exponentially, growing to over two thousand in just a few months.
