Jah Works began playing together while they were in grade school. One of the group's members found his love of music by listening to his grandmother's music collection. Jah Works began performing at Boss, a local club. The group used to sell their tapes out of their truck in the school parking lot.

A member of Jah Works started dating a girl whose brotherwas a record executive. She passed the single on to them and the band signed a record deal soon after. The groupspent years before being signed as an opening act.
